Tonight, an overdue East Side debut for local resident and core member of the E17 jazz collective, Josh Kemp. Josh came to jazz at the early age of nine and in his teens his quartet 'Bop Art' won the Daily Telegraph Young Jazz Band of the Year. After reading Philosophy at University College, Oxford, Josh won scholarships to study jazz at London’s Guildhall and Trinity College of Music. After finishing his studies, collaboration with pianist Tim Lapthorn led to two CDs, 'Animation Suspended' and 'Kukus' "Their music breathes beautifully with subtle light and shade and it is shot through with feeling. This is mature, fully realized jazz of a high order, and a pleasure to hear." - Ian Carr on 'Kukus'. "Josh Kemp has a lovely round sound..really a player to watch..he will grow into a musician of great individuality" - Alan Barnes.
